Welcome to the website of the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine at the State
University of New York at Stony Brook-also known as Stony Brook University.
Our University is a young one, being founded in 1957. However in a mere
50 years it has achieved wide renown and is now recognized as one of
the nation's most important centers of learning and scholarship. Faculty
members have been awarded the Nobel Prizes in Economics, Physics and
Medicine as well as the Pulitzer Prize, Grammy Award and Fields Medal
in Mathematics. Stony Brook University ranks in the top 2 percent of
all universities in the world and among the top10 public universities
in the United States. Close relationships with the internationally recognized Brookhaven
National and Cold
Spring Harbor Laboratories magnify the academic environment. Important
discoveries have been made at Stony Brook including abciximab, the etiology
of Lyme disease, a Lyme disease vaccine, magnetic resonance imaging and
